Postcards
The collection of postcards is one of the biggest collections in the museum. The postcards appeared in Europe in 1870 and immediately gained a wide recognition. A little bit later postcards with a view were produced. For us the most interesting postcards are with views of Dvinsk (Daugavpils) in the end of the XIXth and the beginning of the XXth century. Their themes are rather diverse: panorama of the city, its central streets, squares, railway station, churches, parks, public buildings, educational establishments etc. There are about 400 postcards in this collection, they are rich documentary and illustrative material of the past for historians, regional ethnographers, restorers – all those who are interested in the architectural heritage of their people.
